Honeywell – History and Products
Overview – Honeywell is a global producer of home and commercial products for use in a variety of industries. Some of these products include thermostats, air cleaners and air purifiers, sensory technology, and computer automation. Over the years Honeywell has provided technologies to various industries including autopilots for aviation, clocks, and technologies for heating and cooling systems.
History – Mark Honeywell started the Honeywell Specialty Co. in Indiana in 1906. He perfected the heat generator and made a living with heat regulation until his company merged with the Minneapolis Heat Regulator Company in 1927. The Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Company made all kinds of acquisitions and eventually invented the thermostat, developed the autopilot, improved gyroscopes, and eventually developed their own security systems.
The company was officially renamed Honeywell Inc. in 1963. Since 1986, upon the purchase of Sperry Aerospace, Honeywell has been a significant provider of technologies in the aerospace industry. With a large variety of resources, Honeywell continues to provide technologies and systems to individuals in every industry around the world.
Honeywell Products
Air Purifiers – Honeywell makes a large variety of air purifiers and air cleaners. Their single-room models range in style, color, and function and some even come with an ultraviolet light system to sanitize the air. Some of the Honeywell models have washable filters while others require filter replacements periodically during the lifetime of the product.
Some of Honeywell’s most basic models have limited controls while others have much more sophisticated filter detection and adjustments. Price varies and consumers will pay more for more thorough air purification and monitoring. Most of the Honeywell air purifier models feature HEPA filters that filter out over 99.7% of airborne particles of 0.3 micrometers or more in size. This means that most Honeywell filters will clear the air of common particles such as dust and pollen.
Honeywell also offers a large range of products depending on the size of the room. A large number of Honeywell air purifiers use filters and HEPA technology, but a few use ionizing and electrostatic technology to clean the air.
Honeywell also offers whole-home air purifier units. These units connect directly to the existing ductwork and can provide air cleaning for the entire home. These also use a type of electrostatic technology in addition to filters.
Other – Honeywell manufactures security and heating and cooling regulatory products. Although the corporation also creates products and technologies for the aviation and aeronautics industries, the company focuses its consumer marketing on its purifiers and home-based technologies.
